Out of Sight? out of Mind?

Professor of Social Work (emerita) at Ulster University Mary McColgan delivered a seminar titled “Out of Sight? out of Mind?” on the importance of social workers’ knowledge in children’s development and protecting children and young people.

The seminar, co-organised by the Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas (NI-CO) and the Jordanian Association of Social Work (JASW), focused on the need for knowledge in children’s development among social workers and the numbers and statistics about children’s abuse.

Professor Mary talked about the five forms of children’s abuse, including physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, negligence and cyber abuse. She went into detail regarding the five forms of abuse, noting some cases of child abuse in Jordan.

The seminar, attended by 42, was highly interactive and focused on engaging with attendees and group work. It is part of the EU Support to Social Protection Programme in Jordan.
